Michael J. Miller
Chief Executive Officer
Michael joined QUG as CEO in October 2016 and is responsible for leading QUG’s senior management team. Michael has 29 years of experience in direct, control investments in the energy, utilities and communications sectors, including conventional and renewable power generation, midstream oil and gas, LNG, water utilities, gas and power origination and cable television. Prior to joining QUG, Michael was a Managing Director at Oaktree Capital Management and a partner and member of the senior management team of Highstar Capital, L.P. Prior to joining Highstar in 2001, he had a career in infrastructure management, finance, investments and project development at Enron North America from 1993 to 2001 and FPL Group (ESI Energy) from 1987 to 1993. Michael has served on the Board of Directors of several portfolio companies in the power generation, waste management, waste-to-energy, midstream oil and gas and water utilities sectors. Michael received a Bachelor of Science degree from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and an M.B.A. from the University of Chicago. He is a CFA charter holder.
Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer
Mark oversees all financial aspects of QUG’s business, including coordination of the company’s capital market and project financing activities, investment monitoring and exit and monetization strategies. Mark has 25 years of experience in the energy sector, including 11 years investing in and financing power and infrastructure assets, 10 years in investment banking, financial advisory and trading and 4 years in oil & gas E&P. Prior to joining QUG in June 2016, Mark was President & COO of Riley Exploration Group, LLC, an independent oil & gas company based in Oklahoma City, from 2012 to 2015. Prior to that he was Managing Director at Pritchard Capital Partners, LLC, a boutique energy investment bank based in New York City, where he founded and ran the power, renewable and clean tech investment banking practice. From 2002 to 2008 Mark was Principal at AIG Highstar Capital, LLC and Partner at K Road Power, LLC, both private equity firms based in New York City, where he was a key member of the power, renewables and infrastructure investment teams. From 1992 – 2000 he worked for subsidiaries of Enron Corp., primarily Enron Capital & Trade and Azurix Corp., based in Houston. Mark started his career at Chase Manhattan Bank, N.A. in London, U.K. in 1990. He has an LLB from the London School of Economics in London, U.K. and an MBA in Business from IMD in Lausanne, Switzerland. He has served on numerous boards, including Riley Exploration Group, LLC, Cinco Resources, Inc., InterGen N.V. and Northern Star Generation, LLC.
Executive Vice President & Chief Operating Officer
Dirk manages all aspects of QUG’s day to day business, including business development efforts and capital projects. Dirk has 19 years of experience developing power generation assets, including natural gas-fired combined cycle plants, large-scale coal-fired plants, solar projects, geothermal plants and waste to energy facilities. Dirk has also developed a large-scale interstate high voltage transmission line.
Prior to his role as COO Dirk served as Chief Technical Officer and managed QUG’s capital projects as well as the development initiatives. Before to joining QUG, Dirk was Executive Vice President and the Head of Sithe Global’s Houston office since 2004. Until 2004 Dirk served as President of Steag Power, LLC and was responsible for the executive management of North and Central American IPP operations for STEAG AG, Essen, Germany. Prior to 1999 he was a Member of the team that started the Steag AG’s IPP activities. Dirk’s professional experience includes project development in Poland, Turkey, Mexico, Columbia, Canada, Greece, East Africa, Iceland, Guam and Germany. Dirk holds a Dipl. Ing (Th) from the University of Wuppertal. Dirk served in the German Army and was assigned to the Engineering Division of the Nato HQ AFCENT. Mr. Straussfeld is a QUG board member.
Lance joined Quantum Utility Generation in March 2012 as the General Counsel and oversees all legal aspects of QUG’s activities, including transaction structuring and documentation, compliance matters and governance matters. Prior to joining QUG, he was a partner with Andrews Kurth LLP, a Houston-based law firm. While at Andrews Kurth, Lance’s practice focused on all aspects of corporate and securities matters associated with both public and private entities, including mergers and acquisitions, private equity transactions, joint venture transactions, corporate governance matters, corporate restructurings, public offerings, private placements, and complex financings and transactions. Lance has practical experience in advising on various general corporate matters and in structuring and negotiating various transactional matters as he was an in-house lawyer and an officer of a large energy company prior to going back to private practice in January 2007. He was named one of The Best Lawyers in America 2012 for Corporate Law. Lance has over 25 years of experience as a lawyer, is a member of the State Bar of Texas and holds both a BBA degree with honors and a JD degree with honors from The University of Texas.
Senior Vice President, Project Acquisition & Finance
Matthew is responsible for the Company’s financing activities in the project finance and capital markets and for corporate development activities. Prior to joining QUG in April 2014, Mr. Nicklos was a Director in RBC Capital Markets’ Project Finance Group where he led non-recourse project financings in the bond, institutional term loan and commercial bank loan markets. Prior to RBC, Mr. Nicklos worked for Marathon Capital executing advisory-based renewable energy transactions, for Lehman Brothers leading project finance transactions in the capital markets and for Arthur Andersen as a CPA conducting audit based services for energy companies. Mr. Nicklos has a BA in Business Administration from Franklin and Marshall College and an MBA from New York University.
SURIYUN (SURI) SUKDUANG
Vice President, Engineering & Project Development
Suriyun is responsible for development, construction, technical diligence, asset optimization, and capital projects as they relate to Quantum’s development initiatives, existing generation asset fleet and power project acquisitions under review by Quantum. Suriyun has over 15 years of experience in the energy industry in multiple segments along the energy market value chain ranging from power plant development, construction and operations to risk management and wholesale energy marketing. Prior to joining QUG in May 2012, Mr. Sukduang was the Director of Business Development at Keystone Energy Partners where he was a lead member of a successfully exited private equity backed generation, wholesale, and retail energy company wherein he managed the acquisitions and development of utility scale power generation assets in ERCOT and the start-up and successful sale of a retail energy company. Prior to Keystone, Mr. Sukduang held various roles in the power generation industry at NextEra Energy and GDF Suez Energy NA. Suriyun holds a BS in Systems Engineering from the United States Merchant Marine Academy.
Senior Associate of Financial Planning & Analysis
Ernest is a member of the Financial Planning & Analysis group responsible for performing financial analyses and conducting due diligence for QUG’s corporate development activities. Prior to joining QUG in August 2011, Mr. Leung was a Structuring Specialist at Calpine Corporation, evaluating different physical and financial products off of Calpine’s generation fleet. Prior to Calpine, Mr. Leung was an analyst in the Mergers & Acquisitions department at Direct Energy. Mr. Leung holds a BASc in Electrical Engineering and a MEng in Electric Power Engineering from the University of Waterloo.
Senior Associate of Financial Planning & Analysis
Kalpana joined Quantum in May 2016 and is a member of the Financial Planning & Analysis group responsible for performing financial analyses and conducting due diligence for QUG’s corporate development activities. Prior to joining QUG, Ms. Sahajwani was a Manager in the Investments & Acquisitions Group at ENGIE NA. Ms. Sahajwani worked with ENGIE NA for over 10 years and held various roles in the LNG Group, Middle Office and Central Portfolio Management. Ms. Sahajwani holds a BASc in Civil Engineering from V.J.T. Institute, India and a MBA from RICE University.
Associate of Financial Planning & Analysis
Adam is a member of the Financial Planning & Analysis group responsible for performing financial analyses and conducting due diligence for QUG’s corporate development activities. Prior to joining QUG in January 2018, Mr. Clark worked in the project finance and M&A advisory group at ENGIE NA where he helped support investment decisions for renewable and conventional energy projects in North America. Prior to ENGIE, Mr. Clark was a risk control analyst at Iberdrola Energy Holdings. Mr. Clark holds both a BBA and MS in Finance from Texas A&M University and is a CFA Level III Candidate.
Director of Plant Accounting
Stacy is a member of the Accounting and Financial Reporting group for QUG and is responsible the for day‐to‐day accounting operations for QUG as well as for its operational, construction and development assets. Prior to joining QUG in March 2013, Ms. Guidry served as a key member in the accounting and financial reporting group for KGen Power Corporation where her responsibilities included developing and implementing accounting process and integration among the plant O&M, managing the monthly close process, overseeing daily treasury operations, managing external auditors, and providing financial and management reporting functions for the commercial assets. Ms. Guidry holds a BA in Accounting from the University of Houston.
Associate, Contracts & Legal
Shannon is responsible for a range of individual and team-based support functions across legal and business disciplines to ensure the accurate recording, organization and communication of key contractual, financial, investor and marketing documentation pertaining to the Company and its investments. Prior to joining QUG in September 2013, Ms. Hillegeist was a paralegal at AEI, a Houston based company which owns and operates interests in power generation assets in emerging markets, where she was involved with the management of corporate records and the sale of several assets. Ms. Hillegeist holds an MBA from Rice University’s Jones Graduate School of Management.
Office Manager & Executive Assistant
Ms. Robinson is responsible for office management and executive support at QUG’s headquarters in Houston. Prior to joining QUG in 2011, Ms. Robinson served as an executive assistant to the President of Sales and the Chief Information Officer at Shared Technologies. Prior to that, Ms. Robinson served as an executive assistant to the CEO of Williams Gas Pipeline.
